National commemorations, sports events, pop concerts, and other mass gatherings... What lies behind the smoke screen of a fireworks display?

PAL SECAM Combustion 01 PAL SECAM web © PAL/SECAM

In the Chinese city of Liuyang, almost all fireworks are manufactured, destined to illuminate skies across the globe. Amaury Vanderborght and Cathy Blisson utilize footage they filmed themselves in Chinese fireworks factories and dance videos from YouTube to create an outdoor performance on the border of a cinematic spectacle, a musical and visual journey, and explosive fireworks.

By playing with the metronomic dimension of the imagery, PAL/SECAM questions the mechanisms underlying the use of fireworks as a mass distraction weapon.
