Belgian circus company Side-Show will show two of its latest creations during Theater op de Markt 2023: 'Portraits' and 'Permit, oh permit my soul to rebel.' The exhibition 'Behind the curtains' shows the visual work that accompanies both productions.
Side-Show's creations reflect a unique search for what a movement leaves behind. Thus, during 'Portraits,' numerous works arise as a result of an interaction between the practice of monotype and the practices of the portrayed circus artists Camille Paycha and Sander De Cuyper. As part of this expo, these life-size monotypes are in turn cut up and interwoven into new works.
The works that originated as visual stories, with the aim of making the performance "Permit, oh permit my soul to rebel" accessible and predictable are exhibited in their original form.
In both sections of the exhibition you will have the chance to discover the visual material that was developed during the two creation processes.
The expo is free to view from Thursday, Oct. 26, through Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the foyer of Dommelhof's theatre building.
